- Do I need a chimney? Our units vent directly through any outside wall.
- Does
the stove require electricity? Yes, the units have an auger motor, combustion blower and a room air blower. The stoves are
rated at less than 2.5 amps about the same amount of electricity required to burn four 60 watt light bulbs. In case of power
outages the unit may run with a 12V battery and an inexpensive AC/DC converter available at most supply stores.
- How
do I light the stove? You can use fire starter sticks(with a low wax content); wood pellets and an alcohol based starter gel;
or pressed wood fire blocks. After selecting your preferred starter, fill the fire box approx. half full, ignite, close the
door, turn power switch on and fuel feed to desired setting. The rest is automatic.
- Does my stove have to be vented
outside or into a flue? Yes, although there are no poisonous chemicals emitted from burning feed corn, the burn process for
any flame producing solid fuel will deplete oxygen from the room.
- Where do I buy corn? Corn is readily available
from local farms, farmers cooperatives, feed stores, animal supply stores and other sources depending on your location.
- Can
I burn seed corn? No, burn grain feed corn only. Seed corn is commonly treated with fertilizers or other chemicals that
when burned can emit undesirable gases.
- Can I burn wood pellets? CornGlo heaters are designed to burn corn
only for maximum efficiency and product performance.
- Is the CornGlo heater hard to maintain? No, the heater
requires less than 3 minutes per 24 hour day to maintain. Every 4 to 5 weeks if burned continously, the heater should be cleaned
inside fire chamber with a brush and a vacuum to maintain optimum efficiency.
- Is it safe to leave the stove burning
while no one is in the house? Yes, CornGlo heaters if installed properly do not constitute any type of fire hazard.
If malfunctions should occur, the heater will automatically shut down.
- Does the top of the stove get hot? No,
you may actually place a flower vase on top of the Model 5000.
